in 1969 in Los Angeles CA, Stacey Handler grew up in an
ideal world. She is the granddaughter of Ruth Handler, better
known as the creator of the Barbie doll. The Ken doll was
named after Stacey's father, the Barbie doll after her aunt,
and the Stacie doll after herself. Growing up with this
fame certainly brought Stacey and her family financial stability,
but it also created a deep body image disorder that Stacey
struggled to live with day after day. The Barbie doll could
provide her with money, but it could not buy her peace with
her own size, shape and self-image.
Now
at age thirty, Stacey has collected her thoughts and feelings
in an autobiographical book of prose and poetry. She describes
her issues with food from her eating habits to her secret
food obsessions. Stacey reveals what life has really been
like with her family relationships and living in the shadow
of Barbie, the idolized American woman. Her remarkable story
will touch all those who take heart in it. Stacey currently
resides in New York City, and enjoys singing, music and
metaphysics.
